Important Bible Verses for Business
As I was searching for scriptures that can be used in business., I found that there are so many treasures of wisdom found in the bible that can be applied to make your business a success! In my opinion, the bible really is the best book on business management. I was particularly inspired by successful Christian entrepreneurs who had put the Word of God to work and seen tremendous results. Whatever the size, age or type of your business these are scriptures that can be applied to common situations:
The following scriptures are taken from the NIV translation unless indicated otherwise.
Proverbs 22:29 – Do you see a man diligent and skillful in his business? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men. (AMP)
If you manage your business diligently and skillfully, the bible promises that you will not be in the midst of obscurity. Instead you will stand in the midst of influence and prominence.
Luke 16:10 – Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
Run your business in a trustworthy manner, no matter it’s size. If you can be trusted with your business in the early stages, God will see to it that your business grows.
Proverbs 10:4 – Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
Be diligent when it comes to running your business, laziness will not reap any rewards. You need to be willing to put in some effort and persevere to produce wealth.
Zechariah 4:9-10 – The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. …..Who dares despise the day of small things
Do not despise the early or small days of your business, these are the days when the seeds are being sown and foundations laid. If you persevere, you will surely reap the dividends.
1 Tim 5:18 – For Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,”and “The worker deserves his wages.”
If you have employees, ensure that you pay them at least a decent salary. Don’t take advantage of your staff, a godly employer should never be a stingy employer. Make sure you actually pay them their salary when it is due!
Ephesians 6:9 – And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.
The scripture refers to slaves rather than employees but the concept is the same. You should not treat your employees harshly because ultimately you will have to answer to God about how you dealt with them.
Psalm 127:1 – Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain
Always remember to keep God first in your business. Unless He builds your business, there’s no guarantee of its success. Make God your no. 1 partner in any business endeavour.
Deut 8:18 – But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth
This is a very important verse for when your business starts to make money. Always remember Him as your provider and honour Him with your business tithes and offerings.
Psalm 1:1-3 – Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked…..but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.
This is a marvelous verse. It gives us the imagery of fruitfulness and productivity, which comes as a result of walking in God’s way and meditating on His Word.
Habukkuk 2:3 – And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by. (AMP)
A crucial aspect in running a business is to have a clear vision and strategy for that business. Without a God-given vision the business will ultimately fail (see also Proverbs 29:18). Many enterprises these days have a vision and/or mission statement, regardless of whether or not they actually make such statements available to the public.
Philippians 4:13 – I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency] (AMP)
Don’t rely on your own human strength when running a business, instead put your reliance upon the anointing of Christ which is able to empower you to produce extraordinary results!
Proverbs 16:3 –Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
In business, be sure to dedicate your plans to the Lord and allow Him to guide you in making wise decisions.
Proverbs 21:5 – The plans of the diligent lead to profit, as surely as haste leads to poverty.
Don’t be in a rush when it comes to business. “Get rich quick” schemes, impatience or hastily thought out plans usually lead to financial loss, but diligence and perseverance lead to lasting profit.
