Take Charge of Your Finances

Learning how to properly manage your finances is a key to financial freedom and success.  If you don’t take charge of your money, sooner or later it will take charge of you.  Too many people in the world today are experiencing financial woes but you can make a decision to experience God’s financial blessings instead.

Here are a few ways that you can make sure that you are building a brighter financial future by taking charge of your finances:

Assess Your Current Position

Take stock of your financial condition and assess your current position.  This will help you work out what changes or improvements need to be made.  Making an assessment of your current position will also help you to measure your progress once such changes or improvements have been made.

Set Financial Goals

Setting financial goals gives you something to work towards both short-term and long-term.  Perhaps you want to reduce your debt, save an amount of money or give a certain amount towards the Gospel.  Give yourself time frames in which to achieve the goals and re-assess your progress periodically.

Learn how to budget effectively so that you can keep track of your money and spending habits.  This also helps you exercise discipline and self-control over your finances.  Learn how to tell your money where to go rather than wondering where it went to.

Get Wisdom and Knowledge

If you are really serious about taking charge of your finances and building wealth the right way (and for the right reasons) then you need to go for wisdom.  Wisdom and wealth go hand in hand.  Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich (Proverbs 23:4).  Instead, go for wisdom by finding out what the bible says about money.  Don’t go on assumptions, buy books, attend seminars and above all, study the scriptures that will help you get the right knowledge for financial success.

Seek Professional Counsel

If you are having serious financial difficulties or want to make a big financial move, go and see a professional financial adviser.  There are christian financial advisers too, just do a search online for one near you.

Explore Multiple Income Channels

Rather than rely on your salary as your only source of income, recognise that God is your true source and ask Him to give you ideas for multiple income channels.  One way to get additional income is to start your own business or get paid for something that you are good at doing.  Make your money work for you rather than working tirelessly to get money.

Start Giving

Anytime you give something away, you have exercised control over it.  This especially rings true when it comes to money.  Spiritual law dictates that the more a person holds onto money, the more control money has over them.  On the other hand, a generous person will prosper (Proverbs 11:24-25).
